Ningxia Wolfberry | Pure Home and Body LLC

Ningxia Red is an organic whole foods nutritional drink from Young Living. The foundation of Ningxia Red is the Ningxia Wolfberry (Lycium barbarum L.), a fruit grown in the Ningxia Provence of China.  In his travels, Gary Young discovered this superfruit grown in a very fertile area in the base of the Himalyan mountains.  The Ningxia Wolfberry is so valuable that the Chinese hold a 2 week festival to honor this super nutritious food.  The wolfberries grown in this region are packed with nutrients including more vitamin C than kiwi, more vitamin A than raw carrots, and more protein than raw walnuts!  It is packed with amino acids, minerals and is the richest known whole food source of natural vitamin B1 or Thiamine.  The Ningxia wolfberry is even included in some Chinese Pharmacopoeias and is still prescribed for patients with liver, kidney, diabetes and vision problems.  The Ningxia Wolfberry has been used by Chinese athletes to enhance their performance.

The Ningxia region is called “China’s herbal medicine valley” and wolfberries originating from the local farms are accompanied by a “Green Certificate” equivalent to the USDA’s organic certification.  The Ningxia wolfberry is superior to fruits grown in surrounding areas that typically have levels of lead and other heavy metals commonly found in industrialized areas.   Only three of the 10 existing species of Lycium are listed in “World Economic Plants”, the leading resource for herbs and  plants in world commerce: Lycium barbarum L. , Lycium chinese Miller & Lycium ferocissimum.   Young Living has been importing the Ningxia Wolfberry (Lycium barbarum L.) from  the Ningxia Provence since 1996.   The Ningxia Wolfberry is the foundation of Young Living’s Ningxia Red , an organic whole foods nutritional drink.

I like to eat the Ningxia wolfberries as an energy packed snack.  Because the Ningxia wolfberries are 15% protein by weight and packed with minerals and nutrients they offer balanced nutrition.   Young Living uses the Ningxia wolfberry in many of their nutritional products like the Manna and Wolfberry bars and many of their vitamins and supplements to enhance nutritional absorption.  Ningxia wolfberries would make a great addition to trail mix with soaked nuts and other dried fruits.
